Freestyle Ski Program for Ages 8-17+
Freestylerz
Skiers learn advanced skills and tricks, such as spins, in areas like slopestyle, moguls, and tramp acrobatics. Coaches, trained through NCCP’s SUPERCOACH courses, guide athletes through a season-long progression aimed at preparing them for club and provincial competitions. Athletes set personal goals, with the goal of mastering skills for future events.
Program objectives
- Provide young skiers with a fun and challenging freestyle training environment
- Instill in skiers an appreciation of the techniques of safe, enjoyable freestyle skiing
- Honing skills and preparing for competitions
- Measure skill development and reward the achievement of participants

Program Details
Registration Fees & Memberships
The registration fee covers the coaching and program costs. Each athlete must also purchase a Freestyle Alberta membership/insurance during registration. Fundamentals athletes need a Club membership, while Freestylerz athletes require either a Club or Provincial membership, depending on which type of competion they will enter (Club level competitions or Provincial level competitions).
What are Seeding Fees?
Seeding fees cover coaching costs for competitions and camps (e.g., mileage, accommodations, lift tickets). They don’t cover individual competition registration fees. If more funds are needed, families will be informed based on the event and athlete numbers.
Resort Lift Passes
All athletes need a season pass to Canyon Ski Resort. Freestylerz athletes may also benefit from Winsport and Sunshine Village passes. Lift passes are not included in registration, so consider buying early bird passes in the summer or consider a spring Sunshine Village pass later in the winter.
Additional Training
Each team offers extra training options such as trampoline sessions, yoga, rock climbing etc as defined by the coaches.
Competitions
Some athletes will join competitions at different ski venues. These come with extra costs like registration fees, lift tickets, and travel.
Fundamentalz athletes compete in the “Club Comp” category. Freestylerz can compete at the “Club” or “Provincial” level.
At the start of the season, the head coach will decide which competitions the Fundamentalz and Freestylerz teams will attend, and which ones seeding money will cover. If your athlete wants to attend an event not targeted by the club, coaching can be arranged, but the cost will be your responsibility and not covered by seeding money.
Competition Schedule
The Club Competition schedule and Provincial Competition Schedule are expected to be released in late November. Typically, we target competitions at Canyon Ski Resort, Mt Norquay, Marmot Basin, Tawatinaw & Winsport. Not all venues host every year.
Hosting our own Competitions
Hosting competitions is a great fundraising opportunity and a fantastic way to meet other club families. During our hosted competition, each family is expected to:
- Cover a competition event shift
- Donate an item worth at least $50 to the banquet silent auction. Alternatively, families may provide a $50 cheque, and the club will purchase an auction item on their behalf.
If a family does not fulfill their competition shift or provide a silent auction item, the $300 commitment cheque will be cashed.
Volunteer Commitment
Our club requires each family to complete 15 volunteer hours per season.
- $300 commitment cheque must be submitted at the start of season
- Cheque is shredded once commitment is filled
Our non-profit club relies on family volunteers to keep our programs running smoothly. We ask families to support fundraising efforts through activities like raffles, sales, bottle drives, and pub nights, and to help with facility maintenance like fixing jumps and fences. These tasks are primarily for Freestylerz and Part-Time families, but Fundamentalz parents are always welcome.
Fundamentalz parents can also be a chalet parent to fulfill their volunteer hours and get to know other families and coaches. At the start of the season, we'll ask everyone to help build the mogul course in a fun evening event.
Volunteer Licenses
For insurance purposes, Freestyle Canada requires all on-course volunteers to have a current volunteer membership from Snow Reg.
