Program Details
Registration Fees & Memberships
The registration fee covers the program and seeding fee. Each athlete must also purchase a Freestyle Alberta Membership/Insurance during registration. Fundamentals and Freestylerz athletes need the Club membership, while Competition Development athletes require the Provincial membership.
Seeding Fees
Yes, all registrations include a seeding fee. Fundamentals athletes not competing will receive a $300 refund at the season’s end. Unused funds are divided among athletes in each program and refunded.
What are Seeding Fees?
Seeding fees cover coaching costs for competitions and camps (e.g., mileage, accommodations, lift tickets). They don’t cover individual competition fees. If more funds are needed, families will be informed based on the event and athlete numbers.
Resort Lift Passes
All athletes need a season pass to Canyon Ski Resort. Freestylerz and Competition Development athletes may also benefit from Winsport and Sunshine Village passes. Lift passes are not included in registration, so consider buying early bird passes in the summer or consider a spring Sunshine Village pass later in the winter.
Additional Training
Each team offers extra training options.
Competitions
Some athletes may want to join competitions at different ski venues. These come with extra costs like registration fees, lift tickets, and travel.
Fundamentalz athletes compete in the “Club Comp” category. Freestylerz can compete at the “Club” or “Provincial” level, while Competition Development athletes compete at the “Provincial” level.
At the start of the season, the Head Coach will decide which competitions the Fundamentalz and Freestylerz teams will attend, and which ones seeding money will cover. If your athlete wants to attend an event not targeted by the club, coaching can be arranged, but the cost will be your responsibility and not covered by seeding money.
Competition Schedule
The Club Competition schedule and Provincial Competition Schedule are expected to be released in late November. Typically, we target competitions at Canyon Ski Resort, Mt Norquay, Marmot Basin, Tawatinaw & Winsport.
Hosting our Competition
Every two years, our club hosts a competition. This is a great fundraising opportunity and a fantastic way to meet other club families. During our hosted competition, each family is expected to:
- Cover a competition event shift
- Donate an item worth at least $50 to the banquet silent auction. Alternatively, families may provide a $50 cheque, and the club will purchase an auction item on their behalf.
If a family does not fulfill their competition shift or provide a silent auction item, the $300 commitment cheque will be cashed.
Volunteer Commitment
Our club requires each family to complete 15 volunteer hours per season.
- $300 commitment cheque must be submitted at the start of season
- Cheque is shredded once commitment is filled
As a non-profit club, we rely on families to support fundraising, maintain our facilities, and keep our programs running smoothly. Fundraising events include activities like cash raffles, Christmas chocolate sales, bottle drives, and pub nights. Facility maintenance tasks include fixing jump landings, maintaining fences, and setting up or taking down the airbag (which also involves clearing snow). These tasks are primarily for Freestylerz and Competition Development families, but Fundamentalz parents are welcome to help as well. Fundamentalz sessions also require a chalet parent, which is a great opportunity for parents to complete their volunteer hours, meet other families, and get to know the coaches.
At the start of the season, we’ll ask families to help build the mogul course. It’s a fun evening event, and we encourage everyone to participate!
Volunteer Licenses
For insurance purposes, Freestyle Canada requires all on-course volunteers to have a current volunteer membership from Snow Reg.
